About Swordsmith - Kanehisa
Forged by the renowned swordsmith Kanehisa. As a government-appointed swordsmith during World War II, Kanehisa produced high-quality blades for the Imperial Japanese Army while maintaining traditional craftsmanship.
This particular sword was crafted in Gifu Prefecture during the war, where Kanehisa was known for his award-winning works showcased in military exhibitions such as the Japanese Sword New Works Exhibition.
Unlike mass-produced wartime swords, this blade follows traditional Japanese forging methods, making it an authentic Gendaito, a modern, traditionally forged sword.
The mountings are newly crafted to match the blade’s balance. The fittings, made of shakudo with cherry blossom motifs, enhance the traditional aesthetic. Gold-inlaid shakudo grip decorations depict floral patterns, adding refinement. The iron tsuba features openwork design with Heian-inspired gold details. The scabbard is black lacquered, offering durability and a sleek appearance.
